Taking a break is always an option.

Gambling can lead to financial and emotional harm. If it is affecting your budget, relationships or peace of mind, stop playing and speak to someone who can help.

Free, confidential help in South Africa

The South African Responsible Gambling Foundation provides counselling and treatment support. Its toll-free counselling line is available around the clock.

Find current support options on the Foundation’s contact page. Friends and family can also seek advice. Outside South Africa, contact an appropriate local service or visit Gambling Therapy for international support resources.

Recognise reasons to pause

  • You are using money needed for rent, food, bills or other essentials.
  • You are borrowing or increasing stakes to recover losses.
  • You hide gambling activity or feel unable to stop at the time you planned.
  • Gambling is affecting sleep, work or relationships.

You do not need to wait for a crisis to ask for support. A conversation with a counsellor can help you decide the next step.

Put limits in place early

If you choose to gamble, decide your spending and time limits before opening a game. Treat the full amount as money you could lose. Use the operator’s limit controls where available, and ask how long changes take to apply. Avoid playing when distressed or under the influence.

Cooling-off and self-exclusion

A cooling-off period creates a temporary break. Self-exclusion is a stronger restriction intended to prevent further gambling access for a specified period. Ask the operator how its process works and what it covers. Do not create another account or use another casino to get around an exclusion.

Consider blocking software and payment blocks offered by your bank or device provider. Ask someone you trust for support with these steps if that feels helpful. The foundation’s counsellors can discuss suitable options.

Keep gambling away from children

This website is for adults aged 18 and over. Do not share casino accounts or saved credentials with children. Secure your device, payment accounts and browser profiles, and sign out after use on a shared computer.

Our role

We are an affiliate information website, not a counselling service or casino operator. We cannot close a casino account or activate an exclusion for you. Use the operator’s account controls and independent support services directly.
